Grammar : Reflexive and reciprocal pronouns 

I took a picture of myself. > Ik nam een foto van mezelf.

She bought herself a new computer. > Zij kocht een nieuwe computer voor zichzelf.

Je gebruikt wederkerende voornaamwoorden om te praten over situaties waarbij het onderwerp en het lijdend voorwerp dezelfde persoon zijn.

They enjoyed themselves at the party.

Je vertaalt -self en -selves met zich of zichzelf.

She’s old enough to dress herself.

Let op! In het Engels gebruik je geen wederkerend voornaamwoord na werkwoorden als wash, dress en shave, behalve wanneer je nadruk wil leggen op wie de handeling uitvoert.

You have to look after one another! > Jullie moeten voor elkaar zorgen!

Je gebruikt de wederkerige voornaamwoorden each other en one another om te praten over ‘elkaar’.
