Lesson 5.2 Reading Solubility Curve

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

             Learning Intention:

What? We are learning  how to read a Solubility Curve
Why?  In order to  better understand the solubility of  different substances.
             Success Criteria

I can:
-Analyze and interpret data from a
      Solubility Curve
  • Determine the solubility of a solute in a given amount of solvent
  • Determine temperature at which a certain amount of solute dissolves in a solvent
  • For a given solute; Determine the type of solution as saturated, unsaturated, or supersaturated.

Reading a Solubility Graph:

-  X axis represents _______________________
-  Y axis represents grams of __________________ per grams of ___________________
-  Each line represents a different substance this is the _______________ in the solution
-  As the _________________ changes, the amount of _____________________ also changes.
-  Positive Slope = solubility ( increases OR decreases)
-  Negative Slope = solubility ( increases OR decreases)
-  _________________________ Solution = when dot is plotted ON the slope
-  _________________________ Solution = when dot is plotted UNDER the slope
-  _________________________ Solution = when dot is placed ABOVE the slope

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Reading a Solubility Graph:

-  X axis represents  Temperature
-  Y axis represents grams of  SOLUTE  per grams of  SOLVENT
-  Each line represents a different substance- this is the SOLVENT in the solution
-  As the temperature changes, the amount of SOLUTE dissolved also changes.
-  Positive Slope = solubility ( increases OR decreases)
-  Negative Slope = solubility ( increases OR decreases)
SATURATED Solution = when dot is plotted ON the slope
UNSATURATED Solution = when dot is plotted UNDER the slope
SUPERSATURATED Solution = when dot is placed ABOVE the slope
