Aim - To complete a penetrating conditioning treatment and blow dry on a peer.

Lesson Objectives:

• Give examples of the different types of communication, both positive and negative.
• Recall the steps that must be followed when undertaking a penentrating conditioning serivce.
• Describe the difference between a surface and penentrating treatment and the effect these have on the hair strucure.

Surface vs penetrating conditioner.

In your pairs, discuss the following:

1. Can you state the 3 layers of the hair?
2. Describe what surface conditioner does to the hair structure.
3. What does a penetrating conditioner do to the hair structure?
4. What massage technique do we use while the conditioner is on the hair?

Surface conditioners are everyday conditioners which smooth the cuticle layer.

Penetrating conditioning treatment

• Deep conditioning treatments
• Used to repair the cortex (middle layer) of the hair.
• Needs to be on the hair fro 1-15 minutes - depending on manufactures instructions. 

Massage techniques

Effleurage:

Rotary:

Friction:

Petrissage: 

• Slow stroking movements

• Fast, circular movements.

• Firm, Fast, vigorous movement.

• Slow, firm, circular movement.

Penetrating conditioning treatment

Set up work area with all tools and equipment. and gown client with correct PPE

Choose suitable products and explain benefits.

Complete consultation - Including all hair tests.

Shampoo and detangle the hair from point to root.

Section the hair into 4 quadrants.

Apply conditioning treatments to mid-length and ends.

Complete petrissage massage.

Develop, rinse and blowdry.
