They are the glue that holds sentences together (connect, compare, contrast)

Linking words show the relation between different words to express a greater meaning.

'but' and 'however'

I did not enjoy his latest film.

Johnny Depp is a really good actor. However,

But = maar

However = maar, echter, toch, niettemin

'although/though'

Harry is a good friend although/though we don't see each other often.

Although = alhoewel

Though: hoewel

'in spite (of)/ despite'
