Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Why do humans need energy?

Slide 2 - Woordweb

Where do we get that energy from?

Slide 3 - Woordweb

What are we going to learn today?
Today we will learn:
How plants transfer energy from the sun.
Why this is important for all life on earth.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

The sun
The sun is the most important source of energy for all life on earth.
Radiation reaches the earth --> plants convert that energy to food --> plants get eaten

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

How can plants get food?
Plants convert energy from the sun into a substance they can use as food: food in the form of glucose
Glucose is a sugar that contains a lot of energy
This process is called photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is an example of metabolism.

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

How does photosynthesis take place?
A plant can't do photosynthesis on its own. It needs certain substances to let it take place. It need water which it gets out of the ground through the roots. It also needs carbondioxide, which is a gas. It absorbs the carbondioxide through the leaves. Of course it also needs sunlight

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

What does a plant make with photosynthesis
When a plant has all those substances it can perform photosynthesis. During that, a plant makes glucose and oxygen. It stores glucose in differents parts of the plant, and it releases oxygen through the leaves.

Respiration
Glucose is fuel for all living beings. This respirates in the mitochondria.
Which type of cells do you think have a lot of mitochondria?

Homework for next lesson:
Make the exercises for of paragraph 1.1 in your notebook. You don't need to make exercise 4. Please bring a notebook next lesson if you haven't already done so.
