What is Division?

Division is the process of splitting a number into equal parts

12 ÷ 3 = 4

•  The division symbol "÷" means "divide".
• For example, 12 ÷ 3 means 12 dots divided into 3 groups.
•  Ask yourself," How many dots would be in each group if we took the 12 and divided it into 3 groups.

What Does this Look Like?

Basic Rules

- Dividing any number by "1" gives you the same number 

           - Example: 25 ÷ 1 = 25

- Dividing a number by itself equals 1

           - Example: 92 ÷ 92 = 1

- When you divide a number by "2", you are basically halving the number you started with.

            - Example: 50 ÷ 2 = 25
