Why? To talk about things that happened in the past (Past Simple) and still go on today or have a result that could happen again (Present Perfect)

Past Simple vs. Present Perfect
Steve Irwin made a lot of wildlife TV programmes
Past Simple - it is finished in the past. He cannot do it again.
'Happened in the past, finished in the past'


Bindi Irwin has made a lot of wildlife TV programmes. 
She made them in the past. She could make them again.
'Started in the past, continues in the present'

1. An activity that started in the past & is still going on
I moved to Delft in 2017.              (the moving is finished)
I have lived in Delft since 2017.   (activity is not finished - I still live here)

!! I know - you could move again, but you can't in 2017.. !!

2. An activity that started in the past & has a result that can be repeated
Katy Perry has made 7 albums.   (finished, but she can do it again)
