What you need to know about negative prefixes
With adjectives, the most common negative prefixes are:
un- (unbelievable, etc)*
in- (inconvenient, etc)*
im- (impossible, immovable, etc)
ir- (irrelevant, etc)
il- (illegal, etc)
dis- (disagreeable, etc)
non- (non-negotiable, etc)

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Grammar Rules
* un___ / in____

The rules for ir-, il- and im- are much easier to learn and more general. As we have seen, these prefixes are followed by words beginning with particular letters, namely:

ir+r… (irreplaceable)
il+l… (illegible)
im+p… and im+m… (impassable, immature)

Unfortunately, the only way to  know when we use which prefix is just to  memorise words with un- and words with in- one by one.

Memory Card Game
  1. Get in Groups of three or four
  2. Spread the cards across the table and take turns trying to find pairs of words which take the same negative prefix, keeping them if they match, or putting them back in the same places if they don’t.
  3. Play with the cards face down for extra fun and challenge.

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

SNAP
  1. Deal out the pack of cards but don’t look at the cards.
  2. Take turns putting your top card face down on the table, and race to be first to shout out “Snap” when the last two cards take the same negative prefix, e.g. when “polite” and “mature” are next to each other on the table.
  3. If you are right, you get all of the cards that are on the table and play continues. If the last two cards don’t match, they should just stay silent until the next card is turned over and put down. If you say “Snap” when the two cards don’t match, they have to pay a penalty by giving two cards to the other player(s). The winner is the first person to get all of the cards in the whole pack, or the person with most cards in their hand when the teacher stops the game.

Job Title Suffixes : -er -or & -ist

Is there any rule which tells us when to use ....er or ....or and when to use .....ist at the end of a job name?
There are no rules, I'm afraid, although a number of patterns emerge. Unskilled or semi-skilled job-holders are often denoted with …er, whilst those in scientific or medical professions are often designated with …ist. But there are many exceptions.
The …er suffix is very common, but so is …or. The …ist ending is also quite common, but so is …ant. We also have …ant (accountant, shop assistant, civil servant, flight attendant), …man (postman, fireman, dustman, barman, draughtsman, fisherman), …ess (waitress, hostess, Headmistress) …ee (trainee, employee) and …ive (representative, machine operative), etc.
