AIMS

Knowledge: -vocabulary that is related to language learning

                          - the differences between formal and informal emails

Know-How: - ask yes/no-questions & wh-questions

                          - talk about dates, people and places that are

                              important to you

Vocabulary

What: Exercise 1A: Read questions 1-10. What do the words in

              bold mean?

             Exercise 1B: Discuss the answers to questions 1-10.

How:  work in pairs.

We will discuss the answers in class.

Vocabulary

mother tongue: the first language that you learn as a child

learning strategies: techniques and plans that people use to help them learn

foreign: from a country that is not your own

native speakers: people who learnt a language as their first

slang: very informal language that uses new or rude words

jargon: words/phrases used by people in the same professsion

fluency:the ability to speak a language well without hesitation

accuracy: the quality of being correct

skill: an ability that needs to be learnt and practised

bilingual: the ability to speak two languages fluently

Why is it important to be able to ask questions in English?

Two types of questions:

• Yes/No - questions: Do you like football? 
  
• Wh - questions: Why do you like football?
