Seeing Yourself Right: Your True Identity in Christ

Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson, you will understand the importance of seeing yourself right by seeing yourself as God sees you in Christ.

Who Am I?

Understanding our true identity in Christ is crucial for our spiritual growth. It shapes our thoughts, actions, and relationships. So, who are we in Christ?

Ask the students to share their thoughts on their identity in Christ.

Created in God's Image

Genesis 1:27 - So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Explain to the students that they were created in God's image.

New Creation in Christ

2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Explain to the students that they become a new creation in Christ.

Child of God

John 1:12 - But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

Explain to the students that they become a child of God through faith in Christ.

Joint Heir with Christ

Romans 8:17 - and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

Explain to the students that they become a joint heir with Christ.

Righteous in Christ

2 Corinthians 5:21 - For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Explain to the students that they become righteous in Christ.

Beloved of God

1 John 3:1 - See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Explain to the students that they are beloved of God.

Chosen and Adopted

Ephesians 1:4-5 - even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.

Explain to the students that they are chosen and adopted by God.

Redeemed and Forgiven

Ephesians 1:7 - In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

Explain to the students that they are redeemed and forgiven by God.

Set Free

Galatians 5:1 - For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Explain to the students that they are set free by Christ.
