Regular vs. irregular verbs: PAST SIMPLE:
Regular verb: verb + -(e)d
She worked in the garden last Friday.
She cycled to work one hour ago.

Irregular verb: learn by heart!
She learnt a new language in 2017.
We went to Japan yesterday.

- LADY: Last, ago, date, yesterday.
- Looks the same for all persons: I sang, you sang, she sang, he sang, it sang, they sang, we sang
- Can be used together with the past continuous
- With past continuous, the past simple is the shorter action

Suffixes: you put them behind a word
-> er: achter een persoon of ding dat een een actie uitvoert:
teach - teacher / dance - dancer
-> ment/ -ing: maakt van een werkwoord een zelfstandig naamwoord: achieve - achievement / draw - drawing
-> ness: maakt van een bijwoord of bijv. naamwoord een zelfstandig naamwoord: happy - happiness / weak - weakness

1 - will: It will rain tomorrow. (uncertain, no proof)
2 - shall: Shall I buy eggs? Shall we bring you coffee? (offer, only ‘I’ and ‘we’)
3 - to be going to: I'm going to see my aunt on Saturday. (plan, proof: appointment on Saturday)
4 - present simple as future: The plane leaves at six. Fixed schedule, for buses, trains, school, etc.
5 - present continuous as future: My mother is having a party at home tomorrow. Fixed, time and place.

Your - You’re: Your book is nice. You’re a good writer.
Whose - Who’s: Whose book is this? (It’s Ms Schevers’ book). Who’s Ms Schevers? (She’s an English teacher).
