Ethiopia

Ethiopia is located in the ‘Horn of

Africa’ in East Africa. Known for

its rich history, diverse culture and

stunning landscapes, Ethiopia has the

second largest population in Africa.

Ethiopia’s landscape varies from highlands, lowlands,

plateaus and mountains. 

The highlands dominate

much of the central and 

northern region of the

country. 

Ethiopia is also known for its rugged terrain,

with deep valleys and steep cliffs.

Ethiopia has a unique heritage which dates

back thousands of years. The capital city is

Addis Ababa.

 It is especially known for its

rough, hand-carved churches, vibrant festivals

and delicious cuisine.

In Ethiopia, the climate varies with altitude, the point in relation to sea or ground level. 

In the mountainous regions, it is cold and rainy near the plateau, with monsoon season during June and September.

In Ethiopia, you can expect to find safari animals like elephants and lions. 

More commonly,

you can find African wild 

dogs and baboons.

Ethiopians are known for their warmth and hospitality, always eager to welcome visitors with open arms. The culture is rich with traditions passed down through generations,

from colourful festivals to delicious cuisine. One important aspect of Ethiopian culture is its religion. 

Many Ethiopians practice Orthodox Christianity, which has unique customs and ceremonies. They celebrate holidays like Timkat, a joyful festival commemorating the baptism of Jesus. In addition to Christianity, there are also other religions and traditional beliefs that add to the country's cultural tapestry. 

Ethiopians take pride in their heritage and history, preserving ancient traditions while embracing modern influences.

The flag of Ethiopia was adopted in February 1996, it is a green, red and yellow tricolour in horizontal lines. The national emblem is displayed in the centre of the flag. This emblem is the national coat of arms, a light blue disk with a yellow star symbol in

the middle.

The green of the flag represents the richness and

fertility of the land.

The yellow of the flag represents justice

and equality.

The red represents the sacrifices made for freedom.

The star represents the unity of all Ethiopians

while its yellow rays represent their bright futures.
