Present simple: als je wilt zeggen dat iets een gewoonte/feit is. 

Present continuous: als je wilt zeggen dat iets op dit moment aan de gang is.

 

Present simple	hele ww he/she/it hele ww + s	Bob always walks to school.
?	Do/Does + onderwerp + hele ww	Does he walk to school? Do you walk to school?
-	do/does + not + hele ww	He doesn't walk to school. I don't walk to school.

• Werkwoorden die eindigen op sis-klank en to do/to go wordt bij he/she/it --> hele ww + es (to wash - he washes, to go - she goes)
• Werkwoorden die eindigen op y en voorafgegaan door medeklinker spel je bij he/she/it ook anders:   
  to cry - the child cries 
  to fly - she flies 

 

Present continuous	am/is/are (vorm van to be) + hele ww + ing	I am watching TV at the moment.
?	Am/Is/Are + ondw + hele ww + ing	Are you watching TV at the moment?
-	am/is/are + not + hele ww	He isn't watching TV at the moment.

• Eindigt een werkwoord op een -e? Dan laat je deze -e vallen voor je +ing toevoegt. 
  to write - I'm writing  
  to smile - Are they smiling?
• Bij werkwoorden van 1 lettergreep met een korte klinker (a,e,i,o,u), wordt de medeklinker verdubbeld.
  to chat - He isn't chatting to his neighbour.

Vaak gebruik je de past continuous en past simple samen in een zin --> om aan te geven dat iets gebeurde (past simple) terwijl er al iets aan de gang was (past continuous)

I was waiting for the bus when it started to rain. 

Nikki was doing the dishes when the doorbell rang. 

We were climbing the hill when one of us slipped and fell.
