Shorten as much as you can:
y = 3 x f + 6

Solution:
                                                          y = 3 x f + 6
The only thing you can do here is leave out the 'x' !
So:                                                   y = 3f + 6
Not  y = 9f, because 3f and 6 are NOT LIKE TERMS!

Calculate t = 8 - 5(4 - c)   when  c = 2.
As follows:   replace the letter c with the number 2 :
t = 8 - 5(4 - 2)                   Now work out the brackets first:
t = 8 - 5 x 2   Do you see the RETURN of the 'x'- sign!?
t = 8 - 10  so
t = -2
