Short actions or events - He tripped over the dog.

States / non-continuous verbs - believe, doubt, hate (mental states) / agree (communication) / belong, contain, cost, etc.

Continous tenses

Only with continuous verbs - actions or events!

Temporary situations

Talk about duration (how long smt lasted)
