It may be said that there are two kinds of heroes: famous heroes and personal heroes.

 A famous hero is someone that a lot of people

know such as a sports person, a musical artist

or a (political) leader.

A personal hero is someone that you personally

know, such as a friend, a family member,

a trainer or a teacher.

Pre-activity
First, individually, think about who your heroes are. Who do you admire? Take a moment to think about that and enter at least one hero of yours

Take a few minutes to prepare your questions and reactions. Write down five questions you want to ask your classmate. Use
interrogative pronouns:

‘why’, ‘what’, ‘how’, ‘when’, ‘which’, ‘where’.

You want to know:

1.   the reason why your classmate picked this person;
2.  more about this person;
3.  when your classmate started admiring them;
4.  if your classmate wants to follow in his or her footsteps;
5.  if the answer is ‘yes’ how your classmate will do that / if the answer is ‘no’ why this is not an option.

Type in one of the questions you are going to ask in English

You may have different ideas of what a hero is. First, individually,
think about this. Then, complete the sentences, using four different
characteristics (kenmerken) and think of examples.

 A hero is:
- somebody who...
- somebody who...
- somebody who...
- somebody who...

Now, work with a classmate. In turns, read one of your sentences and explain what you mean in more detail by giving one example. After every turn, your classmate will ask you a question.

Person A - A hero is somebody who ...  and give example!

Person B - Ask a question about what they said!

- Take a moment to think about your answer to these questions.

In what way were they different from now?

Think of a superhero like Superman or Wonder Woman. Describe them.

If you could be a superhero, what superpowers would you have?

What would you do with them?

Now discuss these questions in pairs

• Create your own superhero/villain by comparing them to an already existing hero/villain.
• Describe the appearance of your superhero/villain.
• Describe what kind of superpowers they have.
• Describe what kind of personality they have.
• Also draw or photoshop what your superhero looks like.

Superhero biography

1. Special powers—such as superhuman abilities, mutations, or scientific knowledge.
2. Appearance—are they colorful, funny, serious, drab, dark, or menacing?
3. Background—where did they come from, and did they go through a shocking experience that made them who they are?
4. Public or “secret” identity—what is their social life like, do they have regular jobs, family, friends?
5. Special equipment—such as tools, weapons, or vehicles.
6. Place of residence—rural or urban, apartment or house, secret lair or in plain sight.

Remember SUPER(heroes)lative = superhero are the best/strongest!
