Metropolis

"Large, often western city which plays a significant role in part of the world with regards to economy, politics and culture."

1. Most are in the periphery or semi-periphery.
2. They do not play a major role in world politics.
3. They form important nodes in the global urban network.
4. The major changes on the world stage come from here.

Megacity

" City with more than ten million inhabitants."

• Most are in the periphery or semi-periphery.
• They do not play a major role in world politics.

Metropolis

"Large, often western city which plays a significant role in part of the world with regards to economy, politics and culture."

• They form important nodes in the global urban network.
• The major changes on the world stage come from here.

Megacity = City with more than ten million inhabitants.

Metropolis = Large, often western city which plays a significant role in part of the world with regards to economy, politics and culture. E.g.: London, New York and Tokyo.

Capital city = Most important city in a country usually housing the government.

Primate city = A city that, based on the number of inhabitants and its
functions, is much larger and more important than the second city in the country.
