In participle clauses, we use the -ing form to combine two clauses with the same subject.

Participle clauses
In participle clauses, we use the -ing form to combine two clauses with the same subject.

We can use it to talk about two events that happen(ed) at the same time.
  • Looking out across the sea, I couldn't imagine a more beautiful view.

We can use it to talk about an action that happened before another action in the sentence.
  • Having paid the bill, we left the hotel.
  • Form: having + past participle
