Past continuous

De past continous bestaat uit de verleden tijd van het werkwoord 'to be' (was/were) gevolgd door een werkwoord met uitgang op 'ing'.

I was doing the dishes when the phone rang.

Past continuous

I was doing the dishes when the phone rang.

Our neighbour was painting his house when he fell off a ladder.

Je gebruikt de 'past continuous' om te vertellen dat iets in het verleden een tijdje bezig was, maar nu is gestopt.
