The basic elements of short stories
Short stories (such as flash fiction) consist of 5 elements:
plot (the storyline)
characters (the people... or robots, or animals...)
setting (the location and circumstances)
conflict (the problems that occur)
theme (the topic, based on your aha moment)

Specific: 1 place & time, 1 event, max 2 characters (112).
Omission: leaving things out for the reader to figure out.
Action: in medias res.
Precision: vocabulary & grammar.

Step 1
Choose your aha moment, and think about how you are going to turn it into a story.
Fill in the Story Preparation Form.
Share your ideas with a partner: talk about what you could change and improve. Also tell them what you like about their idea!

Step 2
Start writing your story. Don't worry about the word count too much yet, just write.
Highlight or underline parts you are unsure about, and ask for feedback from your partner.
Finished? Count your words and see where you need to reduce or expand.

Finalise your story and the text for the spark.
Copy your story for the poster and the Padlet.
