Figurative language: Simile

Simile: compares two different things.

e.g. The very mystery of him excited her curiosity like a door that had neither lock or key. 

What is the purpose of the fire?

1. Warmth: to keep warm during the night.
2. Cooking: to cook the pork.
3. A rescue plan: to create a smoke signal for passing ships.
4. Gathering: to join together as a group

The flames and smoke are compared to which animals?

1. Hawk and eagle
2. Jaguar and squirrel
3. Rabbit and Cow
4. Dog and Pig

The fire represents two contrasting symbols, namely the desire of the boys to be rescued and the

1. sunset at the end of the day

e.g. To my dog, our neighbourhood park is the garden of Eden (alludes to the Christian bible).

Percival

Percival, hero of Arthurian romance, distinguished by his quality of childlike innocence, which protected him from worldly temptation and set him apart from other knights in Arthur's fellowship. This quality also links his story with the primitive folktale theme of a great fool or simple hero.

Jack's mask is a symbol behind which Jack hid, liberated from

1. shame and self-consciousness
