+1 cm2 spiekbriefje = Je mag een spiekbriefje maken voor een toets. Deze begint 1 bij 1 cm groot, per keer dat je dit verdient wordt dat 1 cm meer, tot een max van 4 bij 4 cm groot.

Why not?

Rhythm method

• Most women don't have a predictable cycle.
• There is a large chance that you mispredict the fertile period > you still become pregnant

Coitus interuptus

• Before a man ejaculates, some liquid comes out of the penis. This liquid can contain sperm cell
• Some men are too late and will still orgasm (partly) inside the woman

The Rhythm method is nearly useless when preventing pregnancies. But still has a use.
What is this use?

Short protection

The (contraceptive) pill

• Use 1 every day for 3 weeks
• Prevents ovulation
• 4th week = break week, menstruation happens
• Very good protection against pregnancy, but only when used daily!

Longer protection

Nuvaring/ vaginal ring

• Stays inside vagina for 3 weeks
• Comparable to contraceptive pill
• Stops ovulation
• Very good protection against pregnancy

Contraceptive injection

• Injection every 3 months
• Stops ovulation
• Very good protection against pregnancy
• Con: can take up to 2 years to become fertile again

Contraceptive patch

• same as nuva ring but on the skin

Long protection

IUD/Coil

• GP(general practitioner) puts IUD inside of uterus
• Kills sperm and prevents implantation
• 1 - 5 years of protection
• Con: can hurt slightly

Contraceptive implant

• Rod the size of a match
• Underneath the skin in arm
• Stops ovulation
• Up to 3 years of protection

For always

Sterilization

• Physician seals off sperm ducts in men or fallopian tubes in women
• Sperm cells/egg cells can't reach penis/uterus
• Testes/ovaries remain in the body, keep working
• Man will still produce a substance during ejaculation
• Pro: no chance of getting pregnant
• Con: practically irreversible

Unwanted  pregnancy

2 ways to stop a pregnancy

Morning-after-pill

• Use shortly after intercourse (best within 12 hours, max within 72 hours)
• Bought at pharmacies or drugstores (kruidvat, etos, etc.)
• Contains a lot of hormones that stop fertilization.
• Using pill often is dangerous!
• Women often get sick because of the morning after pill, this can make you throw up the pill

Abortion

• Removing the developing embryo from the uterus
• There are 3 types of abortion, depending on the time between abortion and intercourse

Average pregnancy lasts 37 to 42 weeks.

After the 23rd week abortion is not possible!

The pregnant woman should be the only one that gets to decide about an abortion
