Designing small spaces

  During this project you will:

• learn how to be creative when designing for small spaces.
• learn useful vocabulary about bathrooms and making price lists for quotations. 
  
  
• Assignments
• create a floor plan + price list for a small bathroom
• present your floor plan + design choices to a small group of classmates, and answer questions about your design.

Introduction

You have started working on a layout for a small bathroom space, while keeping track of what everything costs.

Today you will work on the pricelist for this bathroom project, using this floor plan.

During the bathroom project, students will be working with an imaginary client/ client's wishes when designing a bathroom.

Have students create their own layout, while using the checklist (worksheet ' bathroom essentials'), and show them the example of a quotation letter + price list. They will be creating a price list for their own bathroom design.

Let's have a look at a quotation letter with 

a price list included:

quotation = a formal letter setting out the estimated cost for a particular job or service.

price list = a list of the current prices of items (on sale).

quotation example, for a hotel, but still useful as an example.

Example: price list

It's important that the student's price list has them same elements as seen here (description, amount, unit price, total price, including VAT etc)
Also grand total in bold (dikgedrukt)
Price list should be easy to read and look professional.

Have a look at your bathroom floor plan. Make a list of all the fixtures and fittings you have selected and write a brief description of each item, including the price. 

Make a  clear chart  of all the costs, including the total amount. This is the price list.

ASSIGNMENT

After that, start thinking/ writing down the answers 

to the following questions:

• What did your client request for their bathroom?
• Why did you make these choices for your design?
• What makes your design work so well?  
• Have you included a contingency budget? Why (not)?

You will need to be able to talk about your floor plan and the choices you have made, so work on these answers.

In preparation for when the students have to pitch their design in groups. They will need to be able to elaborate on their design choices.

EVALUATION

• In what type of situations would
  people need quotations?
• Have you finished your own
  price list, incl. a grand total?

• Do you find it difficult to give someone feedback on their work?
