Blood transfusion

Red blood cells - severe loss of blood and anaemia (low levels heamoglobin). 

Blood plasma - serious burns, severe infections, and haemophilia (an illness that causes the blood not to coagulate well).

Platelets - Leukaemia (bone marrow cancer).

Rhesus factor
Rhesus factor = whether you have the rhesus antigen on your red blood cells or not

Around 85% of all people is rhesus positive. 

Rh- recepient produces antibodies against Rh+

Rhesus disease
The mother’s antibodies destroy the red blood cells of the baby. As a result, the baby suffers from anaemia and therefore has a lack of oxygen.

anti-D immunoglobin (anti-D injection)
clears away the rhesus positive blood cells of the baby
