The Ulster Folk Museum celebrates skills and traditions that were passed down over many generations in Ulster. Schools have been visiting since it was first created, over 40 years ago!

During your visit, you can learn all about how people lived and worked in the past by exploring the site, or by taking part in one of our special workshops for schools!

When you arrive at the museum...

Your class will be welcomed by our team. We'll show you where you can leave your bags, have a snack, and tell you more about what you can see and do at the museum. Listen carefully to the team - they will help you get the most out of your visit!

We'll give your teacher a map to help you find your way around...

What will I see at the museum?
You will see lots of facinating historic buildings. Some are over 200 years old! Inside , you'll see real historical objects that people who lived in buildings like these would have used for everyday tasks. There are real fires in many of the fireplaces in our houses, so please be careful to stay at a safe distance.

Who will I meet?
As you explore the museum, you will meet the people who work here. Our visitor guides are dressed in period costume, and can tell you all about life in the past. They'll be happy to answer your questions! You might also meet other visitors and school groups. Please be respectful of all other visitors, and make sure to stay with your own group.

Look out for our craft demonstrators!
At the Ulster Folk Museum, you might come across one of our traditional craft demonstrators. They are highly skilled craftspeople, who show us the skills people used to make beautiful, useful things. Look out for weavers, metal workers and printers and ask them about their work!

Be prepared for exploring outdoors!
The Ulster Folk Museum is an outdoor museum - so be prepared by bringing your coat and wearing comfortable shoes or trainers. The roads and paths can be slippy in wet weather, so it's best to take your time when walking around the site.

Be kind to animals at the museum!
During your visit, you might come across some of our animals. Look out for rabbits, birds, hens and more! Our farm animals are fed and looked after by our expert farm team. Make sure you always stay at a safe distance from the animals, and don't pet or feed them.

Stay together
Remember to stay with your group...
The Ulster Folk Museum is very big, so it is really important to stay together in your designated group. This might be your whole class if you're doing a workshop, or smaller groups if you are going around with your teachers and leaders. This helps makes sure that everyone can get around the site safely.
