The unit kilojoule
The amount of energy is expressed in the unit kilojoule (kJ):
1 kilojoule is 1,000 joules.
The energy is often stated in kilocalorie (kcal) as well:
1 kcal equals 4.2 kJ
1 kJ equals 1:4.2 kcal

Activity: the more active you are, the more kilojoules your body consumes.
Age: adults need more energy than small children.

Why a moderate-fat diet?
Cholesterol = a fatty substance that your body uses to produce new cells.
Too many fatty foods -- cholesterol accumulate blood vessels -- blood vessels become narrower -- high blood pressure resulting in a heart that wears out faster.

Why a moderate-sugar diet?
Cariës = A cavity develops when bacteria in your mouth convert sugar into acid. This acid attacks the dental enamel, which dissolves the softer dentine below. The result is a cavity.
