1. What is strange or ironic about the name “Camp Green Lake”?
The name sounds nice, but there is no lake and nothing is green. It is a dry desert. The name is the opposite of what the place really is.

2. Why is Stanley Yelnats sent to Camp Green Lake?
Stanley is sent there because he was accused of stealing shoes. He didn’t do it, but he was still punished. He could choose between jail or the camp.

3. What do we learn about Stanley and his family in these chapters?
Stanley’s family is poor and unlucky. They believe they have a curse. Stanley is the fourth Stanley Yelnats in the family.

4. What does Stanley Yelnats look like?
Stanley is overweight, shy, and often bullied. He feels like a loser at school and does not have many friends.
