 Bath, England at a Bed and Breakfast. It's dark, cold and rainy outside.

"Green curtains (some sort of velvety material) were hanging down on either side of the window. The chrysanthemums looked wonderful beside them. There was a bright fire burning in the hearth. On the carpet in front of the fire, a pretty little dachshund was curled up asleep with its nose tucked into its belly."

round vs flat characters

Billy Weaver- round: we know his physical traits along with his thoughts.  However, he doesn't change throughout the story. 

Landlady- flat:  there is very little detail we know really about her other than her age, and she is a taxidermist. We don't know why she does what she does and she doesn't change during the story.
