Past Simple vs Present Perfect

Lesson aim:

- I know how to make the Past Simple and Present Perfect

- I know when to use the Past Simple and Present Perfect with the help of the signal words

Let's repeat: Past Simple

Past simple?

Past Simple

gebruik / vorm / ezelsbruggetje

Past Simple: bevestigende zin

Gebruik:
   - verleden > helemaal voorbij
   - je weet wanneer het gebeurde >                         signaalwoorden

 

Past Simple: bevestigende zin

Regelmatige werkwoorden infinitief + (e)d
I stayed > You loved > (s)he visited > It rained

Medeklinker + y > ied = tried/studied/copied

Verdubbeling medeklinker: stopped/grabbed/ preferred/cancelled/worshipped

Past Simple: bevestigende zin

Onregelmatige werkwoorden > 2e rij

They had nowhere to go. (have)

She did her duty. (do)

They spent a fortune. (spend)

We lay on our bunk beds. (lie)

I flew to New York. (fly)

Past Simple - Irregular verbs

There are no rules for the irregular verbs.

You just have to learn them by heart.

Past Simple: Questions and Negations

- Vorm:
    - did + hele werkwoord
      Did you do your homework?

  - Vorm:

   didn't (did not) + hele werkwoord

   They did not work at all!

   - iets is in het verleden gebeurd, resultaat nu nog                  merkbaar I have lost my keys
   - om te praten over ervaringen in iemands leven tot nu        toe. I've never been to Paris

Present Perfect: vorm

- Vorm:
    - have / has (he-she-it) + voltooid deelwoord
       - regelmatige werkwoorden + (e)d
       - onregelmatige werkwoorden > 3e rij

          to write-wrote-written

          to do-did-done

          to know-knew-known

Past Participle - Irregular verbs

There are no rules for the irregular verbs.

You just have to learn them by heart.
