Imigration to the US

• Before 1960 = Mostly Europe (Anglo-Americans)
  ->  Immigrants from all over Europe (Italy, Greece, Germany)
  -> 200 million Americans have European roots
       (that is almost 2/3)
  
  
• Europeans came to "The Great" America because they wanted to build a better life / future for themselves. 
  

Imigration to the US

• After 1960
  -> Mostly Hispanics and Asians

Hispanics

• Spanish speaking imigrants from
  Latin-America (latino's)
  
  
• 50 million 
  
  
• Usualy low-skilled, underpaid work
  
  
• Spanish is the second biggest language in the U.S. (Miami and Los Angeles)

Asians

• Live mostly in the big cities of California (Los Angeles)
• 24 million
  
  
• Good educations, highest incomes (inkomen)
• That is why they live in big and populair cities such as Los Angeles
  
  
• Often seen a a model minority (voorbeeldrol)

Afro Americans

• The exeption! (Uitzondering)
  = Did not migrate to the US but where still there after slavery
  
  
• 40 million 
  
  
• The mostly live in industrial cities such as Detroit and Chicago
