Articles

Articles zijn in het Nederlands lidwoorden zoals de, het en een.

Het Engels kent twee soorten lidwoorden: 

het bepaald lidwoord the en de onbepaalde lidwoorden a en an.

de / het  >>  the          (bepaald)

een          >>   a / an     (onbepaald)

De regels: the

The = bepaald lidwoord / definite article

Wanneer gebruiken?             

- bij enkelvoud en meervoud

- als een noun specifiek bedoeld is

- als een noun naar iets unieks verwijst: the Eiffel Tower

De regels: a / an

A/ An = onbepaalde lidwoorden / indefinite articles

Wanneer gebruiken?

- als je het over iets of iemand in het algemeen hebt  ('een')

- A : als de eerste letter van het woord dat volgt, klinkt als een medeklinker 

- An: als de eerste letter van het woord dat volgt, klinkt als een klinker 

De regels: algemeen meervoud

- Als je in het algemeen iets in het meervoud wilt zeggen, 

   laat je het lidwoord weg 

> Cats are great pets

De regels: geografische namen

Bij geografische namen gebruik je the of geen lidwoord
