Prefixes (Voorvoegsel)
non-/ un- / im- / il- / in- / ir- 
means 'opposite' 
sense - > nonsense    used -> unused    possible -> impossible     legal -> illegal
re- 
means 'again' 'back' or 'in response to'
turn -> return    visit-> revisit    play-> replay    act->react
mis- / dis- 
mis - negative meaning to the word
dis - used to give opposite or negative
use -> misuse    behave -> misbehave              like -> dislike      appear -> disappear

Suffixes (Achtervoegsels)
They come after a word and changes the meaning.
-er
Means the one who does the action of the verb.
teach-> teacher    eat-> eater    babysit->babysitter
-ing / -ment
-ing - behind a word is used for a product, material or a verb turned into a noun
-ment also changes a word into a noun.
I paint -> a painting     I pay -> a payment           
-ness 
Changes an adv./adj. into a noun. 
She is kind. -> She has a lot of kindness in her heart. 
I'm happy. -> We all deserve happiness

Changes the verb into a noun (zelfstandig naamword).

Passive Voice
Why do we use it? 
- Focus is on the action, not the person doing the action. 
- When who does the action is not known or not as important.

Examples: 

Active Sentence 
Ms. Howes stole my sandwich!

Passive
My sandwich was stolen! (Who did it? Not known or not important). 

My sandwich was stolen by Ms. Howes. (Action more important than who did the action.)

Present Simple

She watches TV at the moment.      TV is watched at the moment (by her). 
They cook dinner for the sick.            Dinner is cooked for the sick (by them).

She is eating the last slice of cake.        The last slice of cake is being eaten (by her).
