Rules for Convicts

Hyde Park Barracks, Sydney

Work

You will work from sunrise until sunset. If the temperature is above 35 degrees Celsius, you get a break of 1 hour.

Male convicts can work as a brickmakers, builders, gardeners or roadbuilders.

Female convicts can work as servants, cooks or cleaners.

Free time

You will have one hour of free time every evening. During this time you are allowed to play games.

On Sundays there is no work and you can go to church.

Rules

You will be punished if you:

- try to run away

- swear

- are lazy

- are drunk

- return late from work

- steal

Clothing

You will receive one set of clothes. You can wash them every Saturday.

1 woolen jacket

2 cotton shirts (men)

1 pair of cotton trousers (men)

2 cotton dresses (women)

1 pair of socks

1 pair of shoes
