- The Hate U Give

- Klara and the Sun

- The Literary Terms

- You are allowed to use a dictionary

- You can answer in Dutch or English

- Read the question carefully and be as complete as possible in     your answers. Give an elaborate explanation if the question           asks you to.

The following questions can basically be applied to all four short stories and the novels

Question 1 (2 points)
Name two examples of setting and explain why they are important for the plot of the story 'The Chapel'.

- Place: The chapel is the place where Ginnie visits to see Father Olive who turns out to be the father of her baby at the end of the story.

- Place: The empty and lonely road at the beginning of the short story is important for the plot because this is where Ravi meets Ginnie and decides to take her to a secluded place to rape her.

- Time: the fact that Ginnie is six weeks overdue indicates that her baby can't be Ravi's

- Time: the Tuesday the Moorpalani boys chose for their outing and the exact time gives hints that sth is about to happen.

Question 2 (2 points)
The last words in the short story Genesis and Catastrophe are:
"… Oh God, be merciful unto him now …"
Explain who utters/says these words (1 point) and why. (1 point)

Frau Hitler says these words (1 point).

She wants God to spare dear little Adolf and not let him die. She has already lost all her other children and wants this want to survive (1 point).

Question 3 (4 points)
Compare the main character of the short story The Utterly Perfect Murder to one of the main characters from the three short stories. List two similarities (2 points) and two differences (2 points) and explain these.

Question 4 (2 points)
What is the message of the short story 'The Sniper"?

The moral lesson of ''The Sniper'' is that no one wins in a civil war. Throughout the story, O'Flaherty shows the devastating effects of a civil conflict on Dublin's people.

Question 5 (4 points)
Choose one of the following themes and explain why it could be seen as a theme of the novel The Hate You Give/THUG. Use two (2) examples from the novel/video to support your answer:

Question 6 (2 points)
What happened to Josie in Klara and the Sun?

All of Josie's future plans are almost derailed when she has a particularly acute attack of her illness and seems likely to die. Ultimately, however, Josie makes a seemingly miraculous recovery (which Klara credits to the intervention of the Sun) and ends up going away to college.
