* when something happened in the past and it’s not important when it happened
* when something started in the past and is still continuing
* when something happened in the past and you can still see the result
* when something has just happened or is about to happen
Signalwords: FYNE (For, Yet, Never, Ever) + JAS (Just, Already, Since) + BAS (Before, Always, So far) + RUS (Recently, Until, Still)

present continuous
When we use the Present Continuous, we are talking about things that are happening right now:
I am walking to school right now.

When we make the Present Continuous we first choose between am/are/is. Then we add the verb + ing. When the verb ends with an -e we delete that to make space for the -ing.

present simple: habit + fact (always, never, every ..)
+ he/she/it + infinitive + (e)s    - all the other forms: infinitive
- don't / doesn't + infinitive
? Do / Does + infinitive
present continuous:  now (at the moment, Look!, ...)
am/is/are + infinitive + ing

an infinitive: (to) go + (to) walk + (to) drink
a gerund: going + walking + drinking

When do you use a gerund?
* When the gerund is the subject of the sentence:                  
* After one of these verbs: love, stop, start, keep on, avoid + enjoy    

* After a preposition (in, on, under, behind, without, etc    
* After these expressions: no use, worth, look forward to

Relative pronouns: who, whom, whose, which, that


* For people: who, that, whose, whom (whom: after a preposition)
* For objects: which, that, whose
* For places and times: where, when
- You can replace who or which by that if there’s no comma before the relative clause
She’s the football coach (who) I admire the most

- You can drop who, that and which if the information is related to the object (= lijdend of meewerkend voorwerp) of the sentence, but not when it is related to the subject (= onderwerp)  
* You cannot drop whose, of which or where
