Comparisons/vergelijkingen

In English we use comparisons to compare situations with eachother.  

For example: to indicate that something is better, worse or the same as something else.

step-by-step plan

Does the word exist out of one syllable (lettergreep)?

Yes --> then you use (+er) for the comparative (vergrotende trap) and (+est) for the superlative (overtreffende trap)

Examples: (easy) easier than / the easiest, (big) bigger than, the biggest.

If the adjective (bijvoeglijk naamw) has more than one syllable. 

Then you use (usually): more for comparative (vergrotende trap)

and the most for the superlative (overtreffende trap)

Examples: more beautiful than, the most  beautiful.

Extras

De vergrotende trap gebruik je als je 2 dingen met elkaar vergelijkt. 

bv: Today is a better day than yesterday.

De overtreffende trap gebruik je als je 1 ding met meerdere dingen vergelijkt.

bv: Today is the best day of my life!

• en in de overtreffende trap krijg je altijd the

Als je 2 gelijken met elkaar vergelijkt krijg je as...as...

bv: Today is as good as yesterday

Bijvoeglijke naamwoorden die eindigen op -y krijgen ie in de vergrotende trap en iest in de overtreffende trap (bv: pretty-prettier-the prettiest)

Er zijn ook onregelmatige bijvoeglijke naamwoorden, deze moet je uit je hoofd leren!
