Couple of general points:
An application letter is formal, meaning you should use formal language
You should focus on using correct punctuation
You are graded on your English language use (vocabulary, grammar, sentence struture, spelling, punctuation) and on whether you've followed the letter writing rules correctly

Remember where to put the addresses and date!

Write today's date as you would at the top of a formal letter.

write when and where you read the advertisement (as in where online or in which newspaper, not where as in 'in the park' or 'in the swimming pool' or 'at home')
state that you're interested in this position
