A ratio is a way to compare two or more quantities. It tells us how much of one thing there is compared to another.

Example 1

Let's say you have 4 strawberry lollipops  and 3 sour apple lollipops. The ratio of strawberry lollipops to sour apple lolippops  is 4:3. This means for every 4 strawberries apples, there are 3 sour apple lollipops.

Provide a relatable example of a ratio using apples. Explain the ratio in terms of the given quantities.

Example 2

In our classroom we 25 students, 15 are boys and 10 are girls. The ratio of boys to girls is 15:10 or simplified as 3:2.

Give another example of a ratio using the number of boys and girls in a class. Show how to simplify the ratio if possible.
