Introduction

Everyone is prejudiced. That’s normal. But what exactly is prejudice, and where does it come from? Students learn to answer these questions by watching an animated video. Then, they reflect on what it means when people are prejudiced against you and explore how they can deal with their own prejudice.

Preparation
• Watch the video and determine whether you will need to pause for explanations.
• Check whether the IWB sound is on

Prejudice

Slide 1 - Slide

This slide introduce the topic and give a brief lesson description for the students.

As a warm-up, you could analyse the picture with the students. How is the picture connected to prejudice? In the follow-up, you can reflect on the following keywords: pigeonholing, snap judgments, in-group and out-group, othering, classifying people, etc.

This interactive assignment has students reflect on what they already know about prejudice. This activates their prior knowledge. Briefly discuss the words. Ask students to explain the words and give examples.

What does it mean to someone when others are prejudiced against them?

Students answer the question in pairs. The goal is for students to reflect on the adverse effects of prejudice.
