Comparatives and superlatives

• Regular adjective - characteristic:

Big, funny, delicious, far

• Comparatives - more characteristic than someone/something else has: 

A bigger house than his, a funnier joke than Matt's one, a more delicious cuisine, a further degree 

• Superlatives - the most of a characteristic: 

The biggest house in the street, the funniest joke I've ever heard, the most delicious cusine in the world, the furthest in development

Comparative constructions

• a bit + comparative: New York is a bit more expensive than Paris. 
• much + comparative = a lot + comparative: Paris is a lot more expensive than Kiyv. 
• quite a lot + comparative: New York is quite a lot more expensive than Kiyv. 

• as + adjective + as: Stockholm is as beautiful as Oslo. 
• nearly as + adjective + as: Shanghai is nearly as overcrowded as Tokyo. 
• not nearly as + adjective + as: Kiyv is not nearly as overcrowded as Shanghai.

Describing a picture

• The composition:

             - Background.. In the background you can see Messi. He is proudly holding the World Cup.
             - Foreground.. In the foreground there are grateful and fascinated fans.

• The context: The picture was taken during the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar. 
• The light: It seems like the light focuses entirely on Messi. 
• The colours: Also the colours are lighter and softer in the foreground.
• The mood: This focus on the hero of the match creates festive and upbeat mood - well, certainly for Argentina fans!

• Your feelings: As for me, I am an admirer of Messi. So, for me, the photo highlights his victory and makes me celebrate even more.
