His coat of arms and his sword were destroyed. Then he was put into a coffin and dragged into a church where a mock funeral was held. He was no longer allowed to be a knight.

What was the general public's view of knights?

People thought very positively of knights. Musicians sang ballads about all the wonderful qualities of the knight. The public loved these ballads and believed that the portrayed image of the perfect knight in these ballads was true. Unfortunately, this was often not the case. Knights could be cruel to the poor and helpless. Most of them did try to be brave, though, especially on the battlefield.

Sir Galahad lived by the code of chivalry because he showed a lot of courage during the Quest for the Holy Grail and he was kind and respectful towards other people.

Sir Percival lived by the code of chivalry because he protected and respected women by helping the maiden. He also showed mercy to the Haughty Knight.

Sir Lancelot didn't live by the code of chivalry because he wasn't loyal to King Arthur and lied about his affair with King Arthur's wife.

Sir Bedivere didn't live by the code of chivalry because he lied to King Arthur about throwing the sword into the lake.
