assessmentS in lessonup

You can transform any LessonUp lesson into an assessment by simply switching on the 'Test' option in the editing screen of your lesson. This means you don't have to redesign quizzes and open questions for an assessment. In this lesson plan, we explain how to create a digital assessment in LessonUp step by step.

πŸ‘‘ Note: This functionality is only available within a Pro or School subscription

assessment SETTINGS

Once you have created an assessment, the 'Teach' button will change to 'Test settings'. All settings for the assessment, such as assigning points, grading, and administering, can be found behind this button.

Points
Underneath the 'Points' tab, you can assign 1 to 5 points per question.
Points can also be assigned to a question in the edit screen. Good to know: the maximum score per question cannot be changed after the assessment has been distributed.

DISTRIBUTING THE assessment

To distribute an assessment, it's necessary to have already established a class with your students as participants. If you haven't set up a class yet, you can do so by clicking on 'Create a class' within the 'Distribute' tab. Subsequently, you can explore 3 options, each of which will be explained in more detail below.

1. Show consecutive questions in random order
With this option, the order of the questions will be different for each student. However, you can still ensure that all questions related to one topic are grouped together. To do this, place a non-interactive slide before and after the group of questions related to that topic. LessonUp will recognise the questions in between as a 'block' and will display them one after the other.

2. Students are not allowed to access my other LessonUp lessons during the assessment
By checking this option, students will be unable to view other lessons within LessonUp.

Note: this option does not prevent students from opening other websites in their browser.

3. Students must proceed through the assessment in a compulsory order
By checking this option, students will take the assessment linearly. They cannot go backward or forward in the assessment to revise their answers. With this option, they will also be unable to view the assessment overview.

SCHEDULING THE assessment

You can schedule an assessment in advance. The assessment will then start and end at the times you have specified. You can also indicate the duration of the assessment. This last option also works when you start an assessment without previously having scheduled it.

Good to know: while you cannot distribute an assessment to multiple classes simultaneously, you can distribute assessments multiple times. Just repeat the steps described above.

status

In the screen that appears after the assessment is distributed, 'Status,' you can see which students have access to the assessment, which students (in green) have started the assessment, and which students (in red) have not. If a student is absent, click on the cross next to their name to remove them from the assessment.

Students can already see the assessment in their LessonUp environment, but the questions are not visible yet. Start the assessment by clicking on the 'Start the test' button. You only need to click 'Start test' if you haven't entered a start time. The same applies to 'Close test.'

Revise

You can grade the assessment via the 'Revise' tab. You can grade per question or per student.
  • Multiple-choice questions (quizzes) and open questions with a pre-defined correct answer are automatically graded.
  • Questions without an answer must be graded manually. Points can be awarded manually as well.
  • Drag-and-drop questions are automatically graded, but points must be assigned manually.

GRADES

Based on the points earned per student, LessonUp calculates the grade between 1 and 10 (= earned score x 0.9 + 1), 0 and 10 (= earned score / total score x 10), or based on the deviation.

You can still adjust the grade as you see fit. Students can see the grades you give them in their app.
