Slide 3 - Slide

> Explain the name 'Cold War'
  • The two powerful forces (USA & SU) and their allies were in conflict. The conflict consists of economic sanctions and threaten each other with militairy weapons. But it never came to a massive ground - or nuclear war, as we have seen in WW1 & WW2.
That's why the name 'cold' is used: the big confrontation never took place.

Slide 4 - Slide

> Explain why you could argue this is a wrong name
  • There were a lot of bloody revolts in several Eastern-European states (Hungary! Poland!).
  • Also there were actually two wars fought over the same ideologies: the Korean war ('50-'53) and the Vietnam war ('55-'75)
