Food footprint

Part of the ecological foodprint. There is 0.9 hectares of land available to grow food for each person on Earth. 

The average Dutch person uses 1.6 hectares.

Why does one out of nine of the worlds inhabitants suffer from hunger?

• The population is growing rapidly (more people -> more food needed)
• The distribution of food is unequal
• Eating habits change due to increasing levels of prosperity
• Transition to sustainable energy: biofuels are used for fuel, not for food.
