How to make blackout poetry
pick a page (copies at the front of the class, take a new one if one doesn't work)
scan the page, don't read it!
pick a word that stands out to you, this will be your anchor word, and will guide what the poem is about.
use a pencil to circle words or groups of words that could work with your anchor word, you can read the page now.
Choose the final words, circle them or parts of them, blackout the rest and/or decorate.

Slide 18 - Slide
Create a blackout poem from a page of The Lottery!
You don't have to blackout everything!
You can use guidelines if you don't want to use the words in order from top to bottom, left to right (see examples)
Sometimes a page just doesn't work, pick a new one.
