My perfect school

My perfect school
Do you know what British schools are like? They have school lunches, uniforms, boarding schools and comprehensive schools. Of course this is much different from our school. So every country has a different school system, with different schools.

Now it is up to you to design your perfect school. Is your perfect school like a Dutch school? Is it more like an English school? Or, is it something completely different?

My perfect school
Do you know what British schools are like? They have school lunches, uniforms, boarding schools and comprehensive schools. Of course this is much different from our school. So every country has a different school system, with different schools.

English schools?
Maybe you are fond of English schools.
But it is even better to think of your own school.

Assignment
Create a new school with classrooms in:
1. On paper (or) e.g. writing and drawing
2. By computer (or) e.g. in Minecraft, SketchUp
Create at least 3 classrooms. What do you learn at your perfect school? How do you learn at your perfect school? Write short texts about the following topics.

Contents
Describe the following classrooms:
• A language classroom • A biology classroom • A Greek/Latin classroom
Also describe these things:
• Which subjects does your school offer? • Which rules does your school have?
• Which facilities does your school offer? (What does the building look like? Are there school lunches, laptops, after school activities, etc?)
• Think of a new name for the school.

Goal of the text
The purpose of the text is to convince the reader that your school should be built in the real world. So you have to describe your school in an appealing and positive way. It is possible to combine two topics into one text. You can describe the language classroom and the languages which are taught at your school in one text.

Slide 6 - Slide

How many words?
Each text has to be about fifty words. If you combine two topics into one text, then it should of course be a hundred words. The assignment as a whole should have about three hundred words.
If you make a video you can do a voiceover, describing the video or hand in a description in English. You have to use 300 words here as well.

Get creative!
A comfort zone is a mental area in which you feel safe. But that also creates a problem, because you don’t want to risk failure. Taking risks to fail is a BIG part of learning!!! So, please go beyond the “normal expectations” and be creative. E.g. your school doesn’t have to be on Earth, or on land…

Some examples
To give you an idea of what could be in your text we have written down some examples.

• Is your ideal language classroom a multimedia lab or a traditional classroom, for example? Does it have classrooms at all?
• Maybe there are lots of assistants there with whom you can speak the languages which you are learning.
• Does you school teach French, English and German? Or does it teach Chinese, Mongolian and Frisian? Or subjects you think a school should teach, which we do not teach yet!
• Maybe the vending machine in the school hall only offers healthy snacks.
