Noun: zelfstandig naamwoord
Singular: enkelvoud
Plural: meervoud
regular & irregular : regelmatig en onregelmatig
Example: voorbeeld
Consonant: medeklinker
Vowel: klinker

Slide 3 - Slide

Regular nouns: (-s)
To make regular nouns plural: 
add ‑s to the end.

Examples:
a cat – two cats
a dog - two dogs
a house – two house

Regular nouns: (-es) "hissing sound"
If the singular noun ends in:  ‑s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, or -z, add ‑es to the end to make it plural.
Examples:
a bus – two buses
a brush - two brushes
a watch – two watches
a lunch – two lunches
a box –  two boxes

Nouns that end with the letter -y:
If a singular noun ends in ‑y and the letter before the -y is a consonant, change the ending to ‑ies to make the noun plural.

Examples:
a baby - two babies
a city – two cities
puppy – two puppies

Spelling (-y)
If the singular noun ends in -y and the letter before the -y is a vowel, simply add an -s to make it plural.

Examples:
a ray – two rays
a play - plays
a boy – boys
a toy - toys

Nouns that end with Letter -o:
If the singular noun ends in ‑o, preceded by a consonant, add ‑es to make it plural.
Examples:
a hero - two heroes
a potato – two potatoes

a tomato – two tomatoes

Exceptions ( uitzxonderingen):
a photo – two photos
a piano – two pianos

Nouns ending on (-f /-fe)
 If the noun ends with ‑f or ‑fe, the -f is often changed to ‑ve before adding the -s to form the plural version.
Examples:
a life - two lives 
a wife - two wives
a wolf - two wolves
But; exceptions:
a roof – two roofs
a belief – two beliefs
a chef – two chefs
a chief – two chiefs
