LEARNING GOALS
By the end of this lesson:

  • You know how to make sentences, questions and negations with the present simple passive & past simple passive.

Slide 2 - Slide

THE PASSIVE
We gebruiken de passive (lijdende vorm) in een zin wanneer het niet belangrijk of bekend is wie de handeling verricht. We leggen dus nadruk op wát er gebeurt in plaats van op wíe het doet.

Present simple passive: am/are/is + voltooid deelwoord
Past simple passive: was/were + voltooid deelwoord

Active: The teacher teaches the student.
Passive: The student is taught (by the teacher).

Active: The dog bit the man.
Passive: The man was bitten (by the dog).

Slide 3 - Slide

HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE PASSIVE
  • Wordt een vorm van "to be" gebruikt(am, are, is, was, were)?

  • Volgt daarna een voltooid deelwoord?

  • Volgt daarna "by + noun / pronoun?" Zo nee, zou dat er achter passen (bijvoorbeeld: by me, by them etc.)

Is al het bovenstaande aanwezig? Dan staat de zin in de passive.
