What is cultural appropriation?

Cultural appropriation occurs when elements of a minority culture are adopted by members of a dominant culture without permission. 

It often involves using these cultural elements out of context, without understanding their significance, and can lead to misrepresentation and disrespect.

Wat zou jij doen?

Scenario's:

Scenario 1: Je ziet een vriend een Native American headdress dragen op een muziekfestival. Wat doe je?

Scenario 2: Je wilt een schoolproject doen over Native American kunst. Hoe zorg je ervoor dat je respectvol te werk gaat?

Scenario 3: Een sportteam op je school wil een mascotte kiezen die gebaseerd is op een Native American symbool. Wat adviseer je hen?

Jullie gaan in kleine groepen van 3-4 personen de scenario's bespreken en je antwoorden delen. Daarna kan elke groep de bevindingen presenteren(in English) aan de klas.
