  • People start to criticize the church ​
  • As a result of the Renaissance​, people started to think for themselves. ​
  • Church is very rich and sells indulgences to the poor ​
  • The 95 statements of Martin Luther ​quickly spread thanks to printing press ​
  • Led to Luther being excommunicated ​
  • Church splits into two sides – protestant and catholic ​
  • Lots of religious wars break out throughout Europe ​
